Brand Stories: Social Media Manager, Ella Ryder

Something that has come as a result of building my brand photography business, is having the chance to meet so many brilliant local business owners. This is something i’m keen to showcase more, and its why i’ve been featuring these “brand stories” on my website, in the hope that it may help others find likeminded businesspeople (and also hopefully help my clients find new customers, too!)

Today we’re chatting to Northamptonshire Based Social Media Manager, Ella Ryder. Ella booked onto one of my mini sessions earlier in the year, looking for some photography for her social media business, and i’m excited to share the results we achieved in just 30 minutes.

For her branding photoshoot, we used Northamptonshire- based Studio, Ordnance Studio, which provides the perfect backdrop for business brand photography.

So without further ado, let’s get chatting.

What do you do?

I help beauty businesses create a consistent social media presence that connects with their ideal clients and builds authority in their space through social media management and mentoring.

What inspired you to start your business?

I've always been interested in beauty. I started off beauty blogging and learned how to use a lot of social media platforms and discovered that I was actually quite good at writing copy and coming up with creative ideas. I invested in courses that taught me how to run a business and uplevel my skills in the online space, so I can do all of the things that are needed to manage a business virtually.

What makes it unique?

My interest in beauty and wellness makes it very easy for me to create content and speak to the ideal customer (it's usually someone like me!). I think this makes the content more engaging and relatable. I also take the time to get to know my clients and spend a lot of time understanding the way their business works which I've heard can sometimes lack in the freelance space.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

Mostly intentional time looking at successful accounts on social media. I'm part of a social media managers group where there is always lots of inspiration and industry insights being shared so that's really helpful too.

What’s your favourite thing about running your business?

Being able to schedule my time the way I want to and the flexibility to work from wherever I choose.

What has been your biggest challenge since setting up the business?

Boundaries. When you love what you do, it can be hard to switch off. Managing multiple clients, there will naturally be some periods that are busier than others. However, I'm getting better at giving myself and others deadlines and sticking to them.

What advice would you give to someone looking to start their own business?

Don't take it all so personally. Expect to fail and make mistakes. I feel this isn't shared enough and it's a hard lesson I've had to learn over the years.
